GTA 6 PC Release Reportedly Targeted for Q1 2027, Far Sooner Than Rockstar’s Usual Gap

For a decade, “when’s the PC version coming” has been the standard follow-up question to every Rockstar console launch, usually answered a year or more later. A new report suggests that pattern might not hold for GTA 6 — and if it doesn’t, it would mark one of the biggest shifts in how Rockstar treats its biggest platform.

What the report says

GamesBeat reported on October 13 that Rockstar is planning to release GTA 6 on PC in the first quarter of 2027, citing four anonymous sources described as familiar with the studio’s plans. Neither Rockstar nor parent company Take-Two responded to the outlet’s request for comment, and nothing has been confirmed publicly. As of now, Take-Two’s own release materials list GTA 6 only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with no PC version mentioned at all.

That gap between “reported” and “confirmed” matters here. This is sourced to anonymous industry contacts rather than an official statement, so it should be read as a credible rumor, not a locked release window — Rockstar has a long history of its release plans shifting until the moment of an actual announcement.

Why Q1 2027 would be unusual

Rockstar’s console-to-PC turnaround has historically been measured in well over a year, not months. Grand Theft Auto V launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, got next-generation console versions in November 2014, and didn’t arrive on PC until April 2015 — about 19 months after the original console release and roughly five months after the PS4/Xbox One versions. Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a similar pattern: it launched on PS4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with the PC version not arriving until November 2019, a gap of about a year.

If GTA 6’s PC version does land in the first three months of 2027, that’s a window of roughly two to four months after the planned November 19, 2026 console launch — a fraction of the delay fans have come to expect from Rockstar. It would be the shortest console-to-PC gap for a mainline Rockstar open-world release in the studio’s recent history, by a wide margin.

Why it could be different this time

A few factors make a faster PC turnaround at least plausible. GTA 6 is launching on current-generation-only hardware (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S) rather than Rockstar having to support an outgoing console generation first, which was part of what delayed the GTA V and RDR2 PC ports — both of those were essentially third releases of the game after an original and a next-gen refresh. With no equivalent “re-release” step required this time, there’s less obvious reason to stagger platforms as far apart. Take-Two has also been under sustained investor pressure about GTA 6’s return on its enormous development budget, and a quicker PC release would extend the title’s revenue window into a second and third fiscal quarter faster than Rockstar’s past ports managed.

Not every outlet is reading the timeline the same way — at least one site has floated a PC window as late as 2027 or 2028 without citing a source, a far weaker claim than GamesBeat’s sourced report. Until Rockstar says something directly, treat any specific PC date as unconfirmed.

What to watch for

The real test will be whether Rockstar or Take-Two says anything concrete around the November 19 console launch or in Take-Two’s next earnings call. A Q1 2027 PC release would be a meaningful signal that Rockstar has rethought how it staggers platforms for its biggest releases — not just for GTA 6, but potentially for whatever comes after it.
